AT Credentialing Programs
Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) Certification
RESNA offers two certifications including the Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) and the Seating and Mobility Specialist (SMS). The ATP is a generalist certification that covers a broad range of AT. Eligibility requirements include both educational and work experience requirements. If those are met, the individual can sit for the exam which is a 200 question multiple choice exam that tests competency in the broad field of AT. In order to obtain the SMS certification, one must first obtain the ATP certification, document 1000 hours of work experience in seating and mobility-related service with consumers and participate in two types of professional activities in the past 5 years. The SMS exam consists of 165 multiple choice questions that also incorporate photographs and videos.
