2018 - Duxbury Braille Translation (DBT) Software Trainings

As part of the BEST Grant's goals to support the implementation of braille instruction and braille technology, BEST is offering a professional development workshop focused on the Duxbury Braille Translation software. The instructor will facilitate the beginning level (DBT 1) and advanced level (DBT 2) courses with a hands-on learning approach. The trainings are open to braille transcribers, educators and support staff serving students with visual impairments at no cost. Participants are required to attend the initial 2-day training in October and then the follow-up training in March.

Determining which DBT Course to Attend

You should attend the DBT I Training if:

  1. You have not previously attended a training on using the BANA Braille Template with SWIFT and Microsoft Word to format text for use with DBT.
  2. You have previously attended a training on using the BANA Braille Template with SWIFT and Microsoft Word (as outlined in the course description below), but believe that a refresher course on those skills is what you need.

You should attend the DBT II Training if you are comfortable performing the skills listed under DBT I. DBT II includes a very limited review, and focuses on building on techniques learned in DBT I.
