Introduction to Connect 12 and MATT Connect

The AT&AEM Center has partnered with Humanware to offer an introductory training session on the Connect 12 and MATT Connect. The training is open to educators and support staff serving students with visual impairments, as well as parents and students at no cost. Devices will be available, but are limited. Please bring your own Connect 12 or MATT Connect if you can.

Course Description

The 3 hour professional development session will introduce features of the Connect 12 and MATT Connect devices. The Connect 12/MATT Connect combines a high-performance digital magnifier with the versatility of an Android tablet. In this hands-on workshop participants will use features of the devices to view and capture printed materials. They will utilize the distance camera to make observation, import PDF documents and annotate on worksheets using writing, typing and highlighting functions. Participants will also turn on magnification features of Android and explore apps that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

Objectives

The participant will:

  • Be able to use Connect 12 / MATT Connect gestures.
  • Gain understanding of textbook pages and worksheets in live mode.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make observations at 10, 15 and 20 feet with the distance camera.
  • Be able to capture, read and organize four printed pages of text.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use the annotation tools to write, type and highlight on a worksheet that has been captured with the Connect 12 / MATT Connect.
  • Explore applications from the Google Play Store.
  • Be able to turn on magnification gestures available in Android.
  • Gain understanding of how to import a pdf document from their Google Drive.
