Accessible Educational Materials
Some students who need assistive technology may also need accessible educational materials (AEM), or materials designed or converted in a way that makes them usable across the widest range of student variability regardless of format. If a student needs an accessible format to engage, the required formats should also be documented in the IEP. Common formats include audio, braille, large print, tactile graphics and digital text conforming with accessibility standards. It is also important to provide information on how the AT might be used with the accessible formats. The National Center on Accessible Educational Materials provides further guidance on documenting AEM in the IEP.
