Make and Take - Tactile Graphics for Students with Visual Impairments

Description

A hands-on session designed for educators who support students with visual impairments. Participants will explore the purpose and principles of tactile graphics, gain familiarity with a range of tools and materials and create ready-to-use tactile learning aids. Attendees will leave with the skills to create more tactile graphics in their own settings.


Location

In-person at OCALI. 470 Glenmont Ave, Columbus, OH 43214.


Audience

Professionals working with students who are blind or visually impaired


Objectives

Through discussion, demonstration, and small group activities, participants will:

  • Identify three key design principles of accessible tactile graphics as outlined by the BANA guidelines or APH best practices.
  • Demonstrate the creation of at least two tactile graphics using a variety of tools and materials appropriate for students with visual impairments.
