As part of the BEST Grant’s goals to support the implementation of braille instruction and braille technology, BEST is offering a professional development workshop focused on the MathType software. The instructor will facilitate the session with a hands-on learning approach. The training is open to educators and support staff serving students with visual impairments at no cost.


Description

Using MathType with the BANA template and Microsoft Word is an effective combination for preparing math documents. The primary focus of this hands-on training is learning how to use MathType. Additional options will be discussed for those situations when MathType is not an option. (e.g. long division).

Prerequisite: You must have attended a DBT I or DBT II training since October 2016 to participate.

Learning Objectives

The participant will:

  • Gain understanding of MathType software that includes an overview, shortcut keystrokes and practice.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use SWIFT and the Word BANA template for Nemeth.
  • Be able to use Word's Math Autocorrect.
  • Gain understanding of the Duxbury Math Codes.

 

Software Provided

A one-year subscription for the Mathtype software or an upgrade will be provided to each district or agency represented (one per district/agency).


Certificate of Attendance
Six and one-half (6.5) contact hours will be offered for this one-day training.
